You may wonder when is the best time to book your newborn photography session so I am here to tell you 3 reasons to book your newborn session during pregnancy! There is so much to do and prepare for when you are expecting a baby, especially baby #1. And sometimes the thought of newborn portraits gets put on the back burner. Life certainly picks up pace when you are expecting but even more so in those first few weeks after having your baby. You’ve probably been up to your baby belly in researching cribs, carriers, monitors and more but there is one more I am going to add to that list, researching for your newborn portrait photographer! Which leads me into the first reason to book your newborn session as soon as possible.
Researching Your Newborn Portrait Photographer.
Research takes time. And if you’re anything like me, everything that pertains to my babies, is analyzed, researched and thought out a million times over. One of the things you want to be sure of when researching your photographer is that the photographer is taking all safety measures that make you feel comfortable that your baby is in good hands. As well as taking all Covid-19 precautions. Newborn sessions can be 2-3 hours so you will want to make sure your baby is safe, secure, and well taken care of during this time.
The Type of Newborn Portrait Session
Deciding on the type of newborn portrait session you prefer may take some time as you look through the different available options. There are fresh 48 sessions that take place in the hospital within 24-48 hours after birth which are documentary style portraits that include the whole family basking in the fresh, new details of your sweet baby. You can find more info and how to prepare for this type of session here. However these sessions are not allowed as of right now (February 2021) due to Covid. Another type of newborn photography is a lifestyle session, these sessions can be in your home in usually the nursery and/or master bedroom and also in the studio. These also include the whole family taking turns loving on baby. You can find more information and how to prepare for this type of session here. A third session option is what I call baby only newborn portraits. They consist of baby by themselves and can take place in the home or in the studio. These sessions highlight and focus on baby and their teeny features. Using the crib, Moses basket, and bean bag, baby is laid in a position most comfortable to them and I work around them making the most of their natural curled up positions to create beautiful timeless portraits.
Be sure your chosen photographer has availability around your due date. Most photographers can only take so many newborn portrait session due to the length of time of these sessions (2-3 hours). Because baby can come at any time I block out time 2 weeks before your due date and 2 weeks after your due date.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and enjoy every moment! I hope this helps make your newborn portrait session process a little less stressful! 🙂
