Pittsburgh is a beautiful city and we really get to enjoy 4 seasons, although sometimes it feels like our main season is clouds lol. The rolling hills and beautiful landscape create such perfect backdrops for Family Portraits. Summer sessions are nice and warm, Winter can sometimes bring gorgeous snow but my favorite season for updated Family Portraits is Spring! Fall is also pretty and brings an array of oranges, reds and yellows and make for a great look to your portraits. But Spring, ah Spring, where the deadness, darkness of Winter comes alive again and blooms all around us.
If you have been following along for some time, you can probably guess by now that my favorite color scheme is neutrals/pastels. And boy does Spring bring the pastels! Newly bloomed trees and bushes with their light greens, whites, pinks and reds make my heart sing. And the best part about Spring for a photographer? THE GRASS! Yep, that’s right. The grass is also a nice muted green unlike in the Summer when it is bright neon green. I dislike the Summer grass because when the sun reflects that lovely bright green it bounces right back onto you and your family creating an overall ‘green’ look to your skin tones and just not flattering at all. It can also be a nightmare to try and edit it out. But I do overcome this in the Summer by photographing at certain times of the day where the sun is less harsh and less reflecting on the grass but it definitely limits availability.
Plus, maybe it’s because I am a Spring baby, but I just love Spring and the joy that it brings. Not to mention it is the celebration of Christ’s resurrection where we have been forgiven of all our sins and have everlasting life through Jesus. One of my favorite verses from the Bible is ‘Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, all things become new’ 2 Corinthians 5:17. Spring shows nature doing just that, creating new life from the shriveled up, bare branches and dirt.
Spring is right around the corner and we are already getting warmer days so be sure to grab your family, choose outfits from my wardrobe collection, put those smiles on and book your Spring Family Portraits that’ll brighten up your home and heart!
*Most of these sessions were taken at one of my favorite parks, Mellon Park, Pittsburgh.
